Russian Bitcoin Trader Killed in Buenos Aires

On the evening of January 7, four unidentified individuals shot dead Russian-born programmer Yevgeny Sipatov in Buenos Aires. This was reported by local media, citing police sources.

According to their information, the assailants approached the victim’s home in the Remedios de Escalada area, Lanús municipality, on two motorcycles. Two attackers fired several shots at Sipatov in front of his friend. The man was wounded in the chest and died in hospital.

The 40-year-old Yevgeny Sipatov, originally from Russia, was a naturalized Argentine, engaged in programming and cryptocurrency trading. He lived in Buenos Aires with his pregnant wife. They had recently completed the construction of their home, near which the tragedy occurred.

Police have identified one of the suspects as Cristian Alberto Ezequiel Mendez. He attempted to sell a white motorcycle, which was involved in the attack, at a low price. The operation to apprehend him is ongoing.

The motives for the attack on Sipatov remain unclear. His brother-in-law told reporters that the assailants took nothing from the victim.

In July 2023, Instagram trader Fernando Pérez Algaba from Barcelona was found murdered in the Argentine province of Ingeniero Budge.

In August, unknown individuals dismembered and disposed of American crypto-millionaire Christian Peev in a toilet in Bulgaria.
