Russian Finance Ministry launches public consultation on two cryptocurrency bills

The Russian Finance Ministry has launched a public consultation on two bills regulating the circulation of cryptocurrencies in Russia.

The first — “On Digital Currency” — is aimed at creating a regulatory framework for activities related to the execution of operations with digital currencies and their issuance.

The second would amend certain statutory acts if the “On Digital Currency” bill is adopted.

The consultations will run until March 18. Publication of the texts is planned for the next stage.

Earlier, reports indicated that the Bank of Russia prepared its own bills, which would prohibit the issuance and circulation of cryptocurrencies, the dissemination of information about them, and penalties for non-compliance.

In contrast to the Central Bank of Russia’s proposed ban on crypto assets and their mining on the territory of the country, the Ministry of Finance presented its own concept for regulating the market.
