Russian Prosecutor-General calls for international cooperation to combat the criminal use of cryptocurrencies

The Prosecutor-General of Russia, Igor Krasnov, called on colleagues to coordinate the fight against cybercrime, including hacker attacks and the criminal use of cryptocurrencies. He stated during a meeting with the president of the International Association of Prosecutors, Cholem-Kyu Hwan.

Krasnov also discussed with Azerbaijan’s Attorney General Kamran Aliyev ways to counter new cross-border crime schemes, including cyberattacks and ransomware.

In July Krasnov described ‘the criminal use of cryptocurrencies in the country’ as a serious challenge and stated that planned amendments to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation on the confiscation of digital assets, obtained from crimes.
