Russia’s financial intelligence service says it tracks cryptocurrency holders
Rosfinmonitoring tracks more than 25,000 participants in cryptocurrency transactions. This was stated by the agency’s head, Yuri Chikhanin, according to TASS.
According to him, transactions in Bitcoin and another 20 assets are being monitored. The process involves the Interior Ministry, the FSB and the Investigative Committee; about 120 investigations have been conducted and 60 criminal cases opened.
«About 10 financial institutions that facilitate cryptocurrency transactions have been identified. The turnover to date stands at more than 630,000 BTC», Chikhanin said.
The head of the financial intelligence agency mentioned the development by his department of the cryptocurrency analytics service “Transparent Blockchain.” Chikhanin noted that some CIS countries have already shown interest in this tool.
In December 2022, Rosfinmonitoring backed a ban on cryptocurrency settlements, restrictions on their advertising and the need for explanatory work about the high risk of such assets.
