CEO of the European low-cost carrier Ryanair Michael O’Leary compared Bitcoin to a Ponzi scheme and said he would never invest a single cent in it, according to The Sunday Times.
The Irish billionaire unleashed criticism of the first cryptocurrency after his image was used to lure investors into a fraudulent scheme called Bitcoin Lifestyle.
A fake interview of the Ryanair chief with Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy is circulating on many high-traffic sites. In it O’Leary allegedly demonstrates how much money he makes by taking part in the Bitcoin Lifestyle program, and urges viewers to invest in the project.
“I never invested a single cent in Bitcoin and I will not, because I consider it the equivalent of a Ponzi scheme,” said the Ryanair chief.
The businessman warned investors away from the first cryptocurrency as if from the “plague.”
“I would strongly advise everyone who possesses even a shred of common sense to ignore this false story and avoid Bitcoin as if it were the plague,” he added.
Earlier scammers used the names and images of Sergey Brin, Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak and other well-known personalities for fake cryptocurrency giveaways on YouTube.
