Sam Altman Unveils Features of GPT-4.5 and GPT-5
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has outlined the startup’s plans for releasing the GPT-4.5 and GPT-5 models. The company aims to simplify its product offerings, making them more intuitive for users.
OPENAI ROADMAP UPDATE FOR GPT-4.5 and GPT-5:
We want to do a better job of sharing our intended roadmap, and a much better job simplifying our product offerings.
We want AI to “just work” for you; we realize how complicated our model and product offerings have gotten.
We hate…

Altman acknowledged that the current product lineup has become overly complex, and OpenAI intends to address this.
“We hate the model selection option as much as you do, and we want to return to a magical unified intelligence,” he wrote.
GPT-4.5, known by the codename Orion, will be the startup’s last AI model without a “chain of reasoning” mechanism. The next step will be a shift towards more integrated solutions.
The company plans to merge the o and GPT series models, creating systems capable of:
- utilizing all available tools;
- independently determining when deep thinking is necessary and when an instant solution suffices;
- adapting to a wide range of tasks.
GPT-5 will integrate various technologies, including o3. Other innovations will include Canvas-mode, search, Deep Research, and more.
Free subscribers of GPT-5 will have unlimited access to the model’s tools at standard settings. Plus and Pro account holders will be able to use advanced features with a higher level of intelligence.
Regarding the release timeline for GPT-4.5 and GPT-5, Altman mentioned “weeks” and “months” respectively in comments on his tweet.
Elon Musk has stated that the ChatGPT competitor, chatbot Grok 3, is in the final stages of development and will be released in one to two weeks, according to Reuters.
“Grok 3 has very powerful reasoning capabilities, so in the tests we have conducted so far, Grok 3 outperforms all known released models, which is a good sign,” the entrepreneur said during a speech at the World Government Summit in Dubai.
Previously, Altman declined Musk and a group of investors’ offer to purchase the controlling non-profit organization of OpenAI for $97.4 billion. The startup’s CEO suggested it might have been an attempt to “slow down” a competing project.
