Samsung Electronics has applied for residency under Ukraine’s Diia City special legal regime. This was reported by Ukraine’s Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov.
The official Samsung Electronics online store opened in Ukraine in December 2021.
According to the Ministry of Digital Transformation’s Telegram channel, the status of a Diia City resident has already been conferred on 55 Ukrainian and international IT companies. Samsung has joined their number.
According to the minister, within three days of the launch of Diia City more than 50 companies filed applications to join.
Among the early contenders were the Ukrainian company Reface, whose face-swapping mobile app has racked up 100 million downloads in 14 months, and the Roosh project, which creates products based on artificial intelligence.
“At the Diia Summit, Revolut announced its intention to become a resident, along with American UST and one of Ukraine’s largest IT companies SoftServe,” — said Mykhailo Fedorov.
He added that the special legal and tax regime for IT companies will enable Ukraine by 2025 to increase the industry’s revenues from $6 billion to $18 billion, and to raise the number of jobs to 500,000.
In August 2021, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed the basic law on creating the Diia City special legal regime. It provides a special tax model for IT companies, the introduction of elements of English law to attract investment, and a separate procedure for interaction with state supervisory authorities.
The provisions of the law will remain in force for 25 years.
