Samsung to Enhance Bixby with AI Advancements

In 2024, Samsung plans to release an updated version of its voice assistant, Bixby, powered by the company’s large language model, as disclosed by Tae Moon Roh, head of the mobile business, in a conversation with CNBC.

“We are going to enhance Bixby by applying generative artificial intelligence technology,” said the president and head of the Mobile eXperience division at Samsung Electronics.

Bixby, a virtual assistant launched in 2017 alongside the Galaxy S8 smartphone, offers various functions such as translation and restaurant recommendations. With the Bixby Vision tool, users can point their smartphone camera at any object to learn more about it.

Samsung will maintain its strategy of allowing multiple voice assistants on its devices.

The Bixby update is part of the corporation’s broader push into the AI market. On July 10, it released new gadgets featuring AI-based functions. Google’s Gemini application is integrated into the new Galaxy Z smartphone series, providing users with a personal AI assistant.

“We are enhancing and integrating more artificial intelligence into our products. As consumers increasingly use AI capabilities, they can experience the convenience and benefits of neural networks. I firmly believe that mobile AI is a strong motivation for purchasing new products,” Roh stated.

Previously, Apple announced the integration of ChatGPT and the launch of a large-scale AI initiative, Apple Intelligence.

Back in June, Samsung unveiled a series of upcoming advancements in manufacturing technologies aimed at attracting AI chip creators.
