Scammers have begun advertising ‘morgentokens’ on behalf of Morgenshtern

Online, several sites have appeared advertising tokens purportedly on behalf of the rapper Morgenshtern, discovered by the authors of the Telegram channel In4security.

Several such pages exist; none of them use encryption and they contain information that may indicate a fraudulent scheme, according to Kommersant.

On one of the sites, the project team lists Morgenshtern himself, the singer Slava Marlow, and a certain Vitaly Butyrin, for whom a photograph of Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin was used, as well as an unknown person in the so-called Guy Fawkes mask. In the contacts only a non-existent Telegram channel is listed.

Experts say the attackers are likely to offer tokens for sale and either appropriate them or siphon funds from crypto wallets via phishing.

Criminals often use the names of celebrities in their schemes — for example, promoting a fake cryptocurrency airdrop in the name of Bill Gates or Elon Musk.
