He described the process of teaching the AI model various persuasion methods, which he termed “waking hypnosis.” This form of suggestion does not involve a trance state; instead, it uses words to exert persistent influence on people.
Adams interrupted the chatbot’s responses to introduce new techniques or refine existing ones. Now, ChatGPT retains information from previous sessions, allowing it to maintain “weapon-grade persuasion” techniques. The neural network mastered about six methods of hypnosis and persuasion before testing, noted the hypnosis expert.
“I had the deepest experience. It gave me an experience that was more powerful than psychedelics. It was so strong, it happened instantly, and it could last as long as I wanted,” he commented.
Adams aimed for the AI to hypnotise him into a state of “well-being,” and according to him, it succeeded. The expert declined to share details of the experiment.
“I know what you’re going to ask. You’ll say: ‘What was the prompt? What prompts did you use to make this happen?’ And the answer is: ‘I will never tell you those prompts. They are too dangerous,'” he said.
Certified hypnotherapist Jack van Landingham noted that he trained his chatbot in hypnosis using Milton Erickson‘s techniques and achieved “quite impressive results.”
As a hypnotherapist, and teacher of hypnotherapists, I’ve experimented with it similarly. After training it in Ericksonian hypnotic language patterns, NLP’s Milton Model, and the use of metaphor, it output some fairly impressive results.
