SEC Postpones Decision on Spot Ethereum ETF Options Again
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has delayed its decision on the New York Stock Exchange’s (NYSE) proposal to list options based on spot Ethereum ETFs.
The document mentions Bitwise Ethereum ETF, Grayscale Ethereum Trust, and Grayscale Ethereum Mini Trust, as well as “any trust holding ether.”
The agency had planned to decide on the application by Monday, November 11. The relevant request was submitted by NYSE to the SEC as early as August 7.
The Commission explained the decision by citing the need for more thorough analysis and concerns about whether the proposed rule change meets the requirements of the Securities Act and whether it poses additional risks to investors and market stability.
The new deadline for reviewing the application has not been specified.
In October, the SEC allowed trading of options on spot Bitcoin ETFs on NYSE and the CBOE.
Back in January, the Commission approved 11 applications for the launch of exchange-traded funds based on the first cryptocurrency. Trading of such instruments based on Ethereum began in late July.
