Semler Scientific Acquires Additional 83 BTC for $5 Million

Medical technology firm Semler Scientific announced the purchase of an additional 83 BTC for $5 million.

According to Eric Semler, Chairman of the Board, the company is “encouraged by the growing institutional acceptance” of digital gold.

“We recently acquired additional bitcoins, primarily using cash from operations as well as capital raised under our program,” he noted.

In May, the company purchased 581 BTC valued at $40 million. At that time, Semler Scientific described the leading cryptocurrency as a “primary treasury reserve asset.”

As of August 26, the firm’s total bitcoin balance is estimated at 1012 BTC, with $68 million spent. Among public companies holding digital gold, MicroStrategy leads the way.

In the second quarter, MicroStrategy acquired an additional 12,222 BTC for $805 million, bringing its total holdings to 226,500 BTC (~$14.7 billion at the time of the report).

Earlier, the company reported the purchase of 11,931 BTC for $785 million and issued shares worth $800 million.

Japanese firm Metaplanet follows a similar strategy, although its purchases are significantly smaller.

Back in April, Metaplanet announced the conversion of treasury funds into digital gold.
