Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary discusses his cryptocurrency investments.
The investor and star of the television show Shark Tank, Kevin O’Leary, holds nearly 10% of his capital in cryptocurrencies. He said this during an audio conference on Reddit Talk.
“I significantly expanded my portfolio. At the beginning of the year my share in cryptocurrencies was 3%. The goal was to reach 7% by the end of the year. However, due to the rise in value of many assets I currently own, we have nearly reached 10%,” he said.
According to O’Leary, his portfolio includes not only digital assets but also companies tied to the industry. He stressed that by the end of the year he will have “a very significant stake in crypto assets, and it’s not just Bitcoin.”
The investor declined to disclose his holdings but said he owns digital gold, Ethereum and the stablecoin USD Coin (USDC). Despite his commitment to the second-largest cryptocurrency, he also believes in the success of its direct rivals.
“Some people think that Ethereum’s game is already over, but I disagree. There are many alternatives, whether Solana or other projects. If you’re an investor like me, you need diversification. That’s the key,”
O’Leary explained that before choosing a digital asset for investment he analyzes the software underpinning it, as well as the value the project can deliver. According to him, cryptocurrencies carry certain risks, so portfolio diversification is crucial.
“I ask myself, can I identify the best teams? Who are the best developers? How should I invest in their projects? On what blockchain are they built? Should I own a stake in this? That’s how I view investments,”
Earlier, O’Leary stated that Ethereum “will always be number two” after Bitcoin.
Earlier in September, the investor urged U.S. authorities to move as quickly as possible to develop a regulatory framework for the cryptocurrency market.
