Shopify expands cryptocurrency payments through Solana Pay

The Solana Pay decentralised payment protocol has integrated its plugin with the e-commerce platform Shopify, according to TechCrunch.

In the initial phase, only the stablecoin USDC will be available for payments. Later, Solana Pay will consider adding the cryptocurrencies SOL and BONK.

According to the developers, the integration will also allow merchants to create loyalty programs for customers.

Several crypto firms, including Helius, Mad Lads and MonkeDAO, have already said they are ready to integrate Solana Pay into their Shopify stores. Wallet owners with Solana-oriented wallets can connect to the plugin.

The average on-chain transaction cost is $0.00025.

Shopify accounts for 10% of total US e-commerce, while the Solana ecosystem comprises more than 11.5 million active accounts.

Back in 2022, the Solana Foundation opened a physical store in a prestigious New York mall with Solana Pay payments accepted.
