Skolkovo Foundation chief says CBDCs have greater prospects than Bitcoin

Central bank–issued digital currencies (CBDCs) may be more promising and more widely adopted than Bitcoin. This was stated by Arkady Dvorkovich, chairman of the Skolkovo Foundation, according to RIA Novosti.

I don\’t know whether the corporate sector will be able to overcome the desire of central banks around the world to retain control of the currency market, he said.

\n

Dvorkovich believes that CBDCs could be in demand if central banks introduce them, \”in a soft, gradual way\”.

\n

He also commented on the surge in interest in Bitcoin:

Any hype has a chance of turning into a viable, functioning technology.

\n

According to Dvorkovich, he remains sceptical, given the constraints that exist in financial markets and the stance of the overwhelming majority of central banks worldwide.

\n

“On the other hand, the latest news that Tesla is prepared to sell cars for Bitcoin suggests that serious investors have begun to regard it as a promising asset. The topic is interesting, but I won\’t venture to forecast whether it will be a lasting trend.”

\n

Earlier, analysts at the Skolkovo-RESH center warned that the introduction of the digital ruble threatens the central bank\’s financial independence and increases pressure on commercial players.
