Snoop Dogg buys NFT for 1300 ETH

Rapper Snoop Dogg has purchased a non-fungible token (NFT) from digital artist XCOPY. For the animated piece titled Some Asshole, the musician paid 1300 ETH on the SuperRare platform, about $3.77 million at current rates.

This is another purchase by the collector under the pseudonym Cozomo de’ Medici after Snoop Dogg’s statement that this is his avatar. According to DappRadar, the wallet contains 388 NFTs, valued at $19.06 million.

“Welcome to the Medici villa, Some Asshole. We hope he’ll be polite at Nonna’s Sunday lunch. Honoured to acquire XCOPY’s first published piece and the seventh on SuperRare,” the rapper wrote on the Twitter account of Cozomo de’ Medici.

Three years ago the artist sold an NFT for 0.5 ETH — $328 at the time. Six months ago the coin went under the hammer for 100 ETH ($180,897).

Among XCOPY’s NFTs offered for sale, the highest asking price is for the piece KING Cricket Soup. The owner is willing to sell it for 212,180 ETH or nearly $598 million. He acquired the token from the author about two years ago for 1.3 ETH ($237).

Earlier in March, Snoop Dogg launched a collection of NFTs on the Crypto.com marketplace.

In April the rapper created a digital collectible asset in collaboration with the creator of the Nyan Cat meme GIF Chris Torres.
