Solana Plans Second Blockchain Smartphone Amid Success of First Model

Solana Mobile intends to release a second blockchain smartphone following the success of its first model, according to sources cited by CoinDesk.

The successor will feature new hardware and will be more affordable.

Specific technical specifications have not been disclosed.

Like the Saga, the smartphone will include a built-in crypto wallet, custom Android software, and a store for dapps.

Journalists noted the potential for stabilizing the excitement around the first model following the market entry of the second. Currently, the Saga can be purchased on eBay for $3200—more than five times its price in early December, they noted.

The excitement arose from the distribution of the Bonk (BONK) token, which led to a gadget shortage.

At the peak value of the asset, users received about $900 in meme cryptocurrency for a phone priced at $599.

Subsequent price increases were driven by new airdrops of meme tokens for the owners of 15,000 devices.

Back in December 2023, after a surge, the prices of most Solana meme tokens—BONK, WIF, ANALOS, and others—halved over the past month.
