Sony has published a patent application for an AI system that studies a player’s playing style and attempts to replicate it.

According to the document, the algorithm creates a separate profile for each player and studies the gameplay, rules, and logic of a particular video game. This data is used to configure the AI profile.

In the patent, Sony proposed several scenarios for using the AI profile. For example, a player bot could take control if the user puts the controller down without pressing pause. According to the developers, this would allow “maintaining online presence” in multiplayer games.

Players will be able to hand over control of their character to the system when they find a level difficult. However, all unlocked bonuses and trophies will be labeled as “completed with the help of AI”.

Exactly how Sony intends to use the technology remains unclear. The patent also provides no information about countermeasures against users who could abuse the system to deceive other players.

In April 2021, Japanese developers created a robot-artist with artificial intelligence. It paints paintings with a movable arm and a set of brushes, changing them autonomously.

In early April, researchers from MIT developed a robot that “sees” through walls.

In March, researchers from the University of Georgia created an AI backpack to help people with visual impairment navigate their surroundings.
