Soros Family Office Confirms Investment in Bitcoin

The family office of billionaire George Soros has invested in bitcoin, Dawn Fitzpatrick, chief executive of Soros Fund Management, confirmed in a Bloomberg interview.

According to her, the company “has a few coins — only a little.” Fitzpatrick described the cryptocurrency as less interesting than the use cases of DeFi and similar.

“I’m not sure Bitcoin is viewed as just an inflation hedge. The market capitalisation of cryptocurrencies has surpassed $2 trillion with about 200 million users worldwide, so I think they have moved into the mainstream,” she said.

In June 2021, media reported that Soros Fund Management allowed clients to trade Bitcoin and some other digital assets. Bloomberg reported on such plans as early as 2018.

Earlier, Fitzpatrick explained that investor interest in Bitcoin was driven by the pandemic and the economic crisis it spawned.

George Soros himself, in early 2018, described cryptocurrency as a classic financial bubble, but predicted that it would not burst, unlike others.
