SpiceDAO, which bought Jodorowsky's Dune, will sell the lookbook and dissolve the organisation

The SpiceDAO community has decided to sell the printed edition of Alejandro Jodorowsky’s unfilmed Dune and dissolve the organisation. The announcement was reported by blogger Dan Olson, citing a message from one of the leading participants, DAO Soban “Sobi” Sakib.

«The book will be put up for auction, the proceeds will also go to the treasury and may be claimed later. After that, the DAO will cease to exist,” wrote Sobi in Discord.

Earlier, a community member going by the nickname kortelin presented a plan to liquidate the organisation’s treasury. The process will proceed in three stages:

According to Sobi, kortelin has already left the ranks of the DAO’s participants.

As reported in November 2021, Soban Sakib acquired the printed edition of ‘Dune’ by Jodorowsky for $3.8 million. He bid on behalf of SpiceDAO, but participated in the auction and won it personally.

Participants pledged to continue raising funds to pay Sobi the remaining amount, as the organisation had managed to raise only $750,000 toward the auction.

In January 2022, the DAO announced plans to create an “original, animated series,” inspired by the acquired lookbook. The community criticised the idea — some noted that the purchase of the printed book does not confer rights to its screen adaptation.
