Sports Illustrated launches NFT-ticketing service built on Polygon

The Sports Illustrated publication’s subsidiary, SI Tickets, launched the Box Office NFT-ticket sales platform.

The service was developed jointly with ConsenSys on the Polygon network.

According to the press release, Box Office enables organizers to “create, manage and promote fully scalable, paid or free tickets for sporting events” in the form of non-fungible tokens.

The company also introduced a ‘super ticket’ feature. Attendees can scan the NFT for quick entry, discounts and access to additional content after the event.

“Blockchain is the future of ticketing. Since launching our global event marketplace, which handles 50 million tickets and more than 250,000 sports events, we have been preparing to enter a new market and disrupt it,” said SI Tickets chief David Lane.

According to the Box Office site, the service charges a fee of $1.40 and 3% of the cost for transaction processing. Project representatives also assured that event organizers will receive proceeds from ticket resales.

In late March, the Argentine low-cost Flybondi launched the Ticket 3.0 campaign, under which it began issuing NFT tickets for flights.
