Steak ‘n Shake to Accept Bitcoin Payments Across All Locations

Starting May 16, the fast-food chain Steak ‘n Shake, with locations in the US, Europe, and the Middle East, will begin accepting Bitcoin as payment in all its restaurants.

According to the announcement, this will make the cryptocurrency accessible to “more than 100 million customers.”

Steak ‘n Shake joins a growing number of fast-food chains that have added support for digital assets.

Back in 2013, Subway began accepting Bitcoin experimentally at select franchises, as reported by Cointelegraph.

In 2018, Canada’s KFC offered a “BTC Bucket” promotion, allowing purchases with the first cryptocurrency.

In 2022, authorities in Lugano, Switzerland, made digital gold, USDT, and the city token LVGA “de facto” legal tender. Local McDonald’s was among the participants in the initiative.

Burger King began accepting cryptocurrency gift cards and direct payments in digital assets in countries like Germany, the Netherlands, and Venezuela.

In September 2024, then-presidential candidate Donald Trump paid for burgers with Bitcoin at a New York bar.

Pizza Hut became one of the first retailers to accept digital gold in El Salvador, where it was recognized as legal tender in 2021. A year earlier, the chain launched a similar experiment in Venezuela.

On May 22, the cryptocurrency community will celebrate another Bitcoin Pizza Day. This event commemorates a landmark moment in the industry when, in 2010, programmer Laszlo Hanyecz purchased two Papa John’s pizzas for 10,000 BTC.

In 2024, in honor of Bitcoin Pizza Day, the exchange Gate.io raffled 1 BTC among users, while Binance delivered pizza offline.
