Study: Data leaks caused by employees rise 47% in the first half of 2020

In the first six months of 2020, the number of data leaks at Russian companies caused by employees rose by almost half compared with the same period last year. This is according to a study by KROK, as reported by Kommersant.

\n

The total damage from such leaks during this period is estimated at 1.8 billion rubles.

\n

More than 30% of data exposed publicly consists of telephone numbers and passport details, as they are easy to monetize, researchers note.

\n

InfoWatch specialists say that the share of intentional data dumps in the first half of 2020 exceeded 78% of the total number of leaks.

\n

Researchers believe this trend is linked to a general drop in household incomes, as well as the shift of many employees to remote work — many use uncontrolled channels of communication to transmit confidential information.

\n

Experts told ForkLog earlier that employees of organisations or agencies are often the cause of data leaks.
