Study finds Russian is the second-most common language in media coverage of Bitcoin exchanges

Study finds Russian is the second-most common language in media coverage of Bitcoin exchanges

75% of the total trading volume on cryptocurrency exchanges is accounted for by three platforms — Binance, Huobi and OKEx. This is evidenced by the results the study by BDCenter Digital.

Analysts analysed 30 leading cryptocurrency exchanges and compared their performance in 2020 with data from 2018.

Since 2018 the number of cryptocurrency users has nearly tripled, the analysts noted. In the third quarter of 2020, the number of accounts registered on crypto platforms reached 191 million, while the number of unique users who completed verification stood at 101 million.

The platforms have also become available in a greater number of jurisdictions — leading exchanges offer services to residents of more than 150 countries. At the same time, researchers emphasise that the availability of an exchange in a country does not necessarily mean access to all of its products and functionality.

The safest exchanges, based on analyses of various expert evaluations, were Kraken, Coinbase and Binance.

The share of exchanges with fiat gateways has risen from 43% to 70%, 65% of platforms support buying cryptocurrency with a credit card. Also, 40% of leading platforms have issued native tokens since 2018.

Analysts also examined publications about cryptocurrency exchanges across various media. The leading media by the number of articles was Cointelegraph, with Forklog, among Russian-language outlets, ranking fifth overall.

“This is the only non-English site in the top five, and among all ten sites only ForkLog and Cointelegraph have retained their positions in the ranking since 2018,” said representatives of BDCenter Digital.

The Russian language proved to be the second-most popular after English for articles about Bitcoin exchanges. This confirms that interest in cryptocurrencies in the Russian-speaking sphere remains high, the researchers noted.

As reported in data from BDCenter Digital, twelve of one hundred Twitter posts are about cryptocurrency, 70% of all mentions belong to 30 users.
