Study finds US bitcoin investors have tripled since 2018

Since 2018, the share of Bitcoin holders among American investors has tripled—from 2% to 6%. Such calculations point to Gallup.

The study surveyed 1,037 adults aged 18 and over. The statistical margin of error was +/- 5%.

Gallup noted growing interest in the asset among Americans under 50. The share of Bitcoin investors in this cohort rose from 3% to 13%. Among those born before 1971, the figure increased from 1% to 3%.

Perception of the first cryptocurrency has improved as well. Three years ago, it was labeled “very risky” by 75% of respondents; today, 60% say so. One in twenty said there were no risks.

Investment preferences remain tilted toward traditional financial instruments. 84% of those surveyed reported holding ETF in their portfolios, 67% — stocks, 50% — bonds.

Bitcoin, as an investment asset, is comparable to gold, owned by 11% of respondents.

Gallup researchers concluded that interest in the first cryptocurrency among companies such as Tesla, Square and Morgan Stanley could bolster confidence in it.

Earlier in October, Cambridge University researchers counted 101 million cryptocurrency users worldwide.

Earlier, a Goldman Sachs poll showed that 45% of family offices are interested in digital assets, and 15% have already invested in them.

According to a Fidelity Digital Assets survey, 70% of institutional investors expect to invest in cryptocurrency-industry projects in the future.
