The Substack online service, which lets users create newsletters and charge for access, added support for Bitcoin-based Lightning payments. This is stated in a statement from the platform.

The option is implemented in cooperation with the processing service OpenNode — a project founded in April 2018 by a group of developers of Bitcoin and the Lightning Network protocol.
\n\n
The feature is available \”for selected publications focused on cryptocurrencies.\” An OpenNode representative, in comments to The Block, noted that among them are materials by Willy Woo and Dan Held.
\n\n
\”Bitcoin payments are fast, convenient and secure, with low fees. We use the Lightning Network for transactions, [which] is even faster than credit cards,\” said Substack.
\n\n
They added that the service counts more than 500,000 paying subscribers. The platform, founded in 2017, is supported by Andreessen Horowitz, Y Combinator, Fifty Years and other investors.
\n\n
Earlier, billionaire Tim Draper invested $1.25 million in bitcoin processing. In June 2021, he suggested that in the near future all retailers will be using OpenNode.
\n\n
As noted, from January to July the capacity of the Bitcoin Lightning Network grew by 70% — from 1,058.68 BTC to 1,806.38 BTC.
