Survey: 61% of institutional investors have already invested in cryptocurrencies or plan to do so

European institutional investors are showing interest in digital currencies — many of them have already invested or plan to allocate part of their assets to cryptocurrencies. This is evidenced by data report from Cointelegraph.

As part of the study, analysts surveyed 55 institutional investors, including banks, asset managers and pension funds from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The total assets under management among respondents exceed €719 billion.

36% of those surveyed have already invested in crypto assets. The majority of them hold less than 10% of the assets under management in cryptocurrencies.

The sharpest surge in institutional interest was recorded in 2018 — at that time many decided to invest in cryptocurrencies.

The most popular assets among institutional investors remain Bitcoin and Ethereum. 19% of respondents have allocated to stablecoins.

Among the 64% of respondents who have not yet invested in cryptocurrencies, 39% plan to do so.

“As a result, 61.15% of surveyed professional investors either already own digital assets or plan to purchase them in the future,” the researchers noted.

As reported in the study by the crypto-insurance services provider Evertas and analytics company Pureprofile, 45 of 50 pension funds and insurance companies in the UK and the US will increase their investments in cryptocurrencies over the next five years.
