Survey: a quarter of Russians would store up to ₽20,000 in the digital rouble

58.3% of Russians are willing to store savings in the digital rouble, but the amounts they consider for CBDC investments vary. This is reported by Izvestiya citing research by the founders of the ‘Artificial Intelligence’ prize, organized by the SPB Exchange and RTS.

The survey included more than 2,000 respondents nationwide, aged 18 to 65.

About 15% said they would convert no more than ₽5,000, 23.8% — from ₽5,000 to ₽20,000, 9% — from ₽20,000 to ₽50,000.

Around 2% of respondents named the range from ₽50,000 to ₽100,000, 3.4% — above ₽100,000, and only 2.4% — all of their savings.

The majority of respondents would like to start using the digital rouble in everyday life. 22% say they are deterred by a lack of information about the technology, and 21% by concerns about security and system glitches.

The law on Russia’s digital currency took effect 1 August. Citizens will be able to use it widely in 2025–2027.

Earlier the regulator set for banks requirements for information security of operations with digital roubles and established tariffs for them.

Meanwhile the Association of Banks of Russia spoke of «an extremely wary attitude» among citizens toward the asset.

From 15 August, Russian credit and financial institutions conduct first operations as part of CBDC testing.
