Sushi community names new Head Chef

Jared Grey won the vote for the post of executive director of Sushi, or ‘Head Chef’, as the role is called in the project.

Participants in the decentralized autonomous organization Sushi DAO cast 11 million votes for him—more than 83.5%. In second place of five, Andy Forman of EY, the consulting firm, received 12.51%.

Voting opened on September 26 and closed on October 3.

Grey has a background in business development and IT consulting. As CEO, he led the cryptocurrency exchange Bitfineon and the DeFi project Eons Finance.

‘It is a great honour to assume the role of Head Chef at Sushi. The trust placed in me to help shape the next stage of the protocol’s development gives me pause for reflection on what Sushi stands for as a project for the entire community,’ Grey said.

In September 2020, the anonymous founder and first head of Sushi under the alias Nomi stepped down. This occurred amid accusations of unauthorized withdrawal of tokens worth about $14 million from the project’s developer fund.

Nomi returned the assets within a few days and handed over control to the team led by FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried.

Nomi’s successor as Head Chef was Maki, who left in September 2021.

In December the project lost its Chief Technical Officer. Joseph Delong left amid internal disagreements within the team, failing to secure developer support.

Earlier in May, the Sushi community proposed discussing the creation of a legal structure for the project.
