Suspects in attack on cryptocurrency trader detained at Kemerovo airport

The police have identified two suspects in the theft of 50 million rubles from a resident of Tomsk, which he had received from selling cryptocurrency. This was said by the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ press service.

The incident occurred on August 28 in Novosibirsk. Unknown assailants ambushed a 23-year-old Tomsk resident near one of the business centers. Spraying him in the face with a gas canister, they took a bag containing 50 million rubles. Shortly before the robbery, the victim exchanged cryptocurrency for cash.

Investigators found that the attackers planned to flee to another region. They were detained while attempting to check in for a flight at Kemerovo Airport.

The suspects are two Novosibirsk residents with no prior convictions, aged 23 and 32. One of them has been remanded in custody, the other is under an undertaking not to leave the country.

A criminal case has been opened in connection with the robbery. Police are locating the stolen funds.

Earlier, a Russian citizen lost 1.2 million rubles in a bitcoin scam.
