Swiss Post to issue NFT stamp
On 25 November, Switzerland’s national postal operator will release a collection of 175,000 digital stamps across 13 designs.
They resemble any ordinary stamp — self-adhesive, bearing an image of Matterhorn and the Moon on a blue background, priced at 8.90 francs. But each copy provides access to the digital version stored on the blockchain via a QR code.
“The token will be launched on the Polygon network,” Cointelegraph reported, citing representatives of the operator.
The crypto stamp aims to bridge the gap between the physical world and the digital asset universe, according to the press release.
NFT can be collected, traded and exchanged on marketplaces similar to OpenSea.
The crypto stamp will offer an NFT-like user experience.
“There will be 65,000 copies of the most common digital design, but only 50 of the rarest. Thanks to crypto stamps, philatelists will gain a digital experience,” the press release states.
Earlier in May, Austria’s postal service announced the release of Crypto Stamp 3.0 as NFTs. The first NFT-based stamps using this technology appeared as early as 2019.
