
Tanzania’s president urges central bank to study cryptocurrencies
The head of Tanzania, Samia Hassan Suluhu, urged the country’s central bank to study digital assets in light of their growing influence on the global financial market. This was reported by Swahili Times.
“My appeal to the central bank: start work in this direction. The central bank must be prepared for changes so that it is not caught off guard,” the head of state emphasised.
Tanzania is one of the poorer countries by GDP per capita. According to IMF, the country ranks 169th out of 195 in the index.
Inflation in Tanzania is 3.3%, according to Trading Economics. The country has its own currency—the Tanzanian shilling.
On June 9, El Salvador adopted a bill recognizing Bitcoin as an official means of payment in the country on par with the US dollar.
