
Teletubbies tease ‘something big’ tied to Bitcoin
The Teletubbies are preparing a Bitcoin-related announcement for the project’s 24th anniversary. Later representatives described the information as an April Fools’ joke.
The Teletubbies also supported flashmob and added glowing eyes to their Twitter profile photo.
On Thursday, April 1, the WildBrain studio said the news was an April Fools’ joke and part of a social-media campaign to raise funds for charity.
“Although TubbyCoin is not actually a cryptocurrency, we hope you still enjoy sharing TubbyCoins with friends, family and everyone in need of hugs,” said Michael Riley, brand director of the company.
Against the backdrop of Bitcoin’s price moving above $50,000, the hashtag #LaserRayUntil100K appeared. The flash mob gained popularity among Bitcoin optimists confident of a continued bull rally to $100,000.
Earlier in March 2021, Beacon Pictures announced work on a series ‘Hold On, Dear Life’ about cryptocurrencies. The creators plan to tokenise part of the profits and release a full series as NFTs.
In February 2020, the creators of the cult cartoon The Simpsons dedicated a new episode to cryptocurrencies titled «Frinkcoin». It also explains the principles of distributed ledger technology.
In May 2018, Bitcoin was mentioned in a crossover episode of The Simpsons and Family Guy, as well as in the mobile game The Simpsons: Tapped Out.
