A resident of Ternopil, with the help of accomplices, extorted nearly 7 million hryvnias in bitcoins (about $250,000). The National Police of Ukraine сообщили.

At the organiser’s request, two aides first threatened the entrepreneur’s family, after which two stores belonging to him were set on fire.

One of the perpetrators was a 25-year-old doctor who was seeking to address his financial problems in this way.

Police conducted ten searches at the suspects’ residences in Ternopil, Vinnytsia, Kyiv regions and in the capital.

The organiser and his accomplices have been charged with extortion and destruction of property. The case file has been sent to court.

Earlier in December 2021, Ukrainian media suspected bitcoin extortionists in the explosion of a barn in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
