Tether announced the launch of PearPass, a cloud-free password manager.

Tether announced the launch of PearPass, a password manager that stores credentials solely on users’ devices without using cloud servers.

The developers have opted against centralized data storage to eliminate the risk of mass leaks. Synchronization between devices occurs directly through an encrypted P2P connection, removing the need for intermediaries and the transfer of access keys to third parties.

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino stated that secrets stored in the cloud do not truly belong to the owner. According to him, PearPass eliminates the “single point of failure,” has no backdoors, and is protected from external interference or data seizure.

The application is open-source, uses end-to-end encryption, and includes a generator for complex combinations. The architecture’s reliability has been confirmed by an audit from Secfault Security.

PearPass is the first product in the decentralized Pear ecosystem. The application is already available for free download on all major platforms.

Ardoino announced the tool’s launch back in June in response to a leak of 16 billion passwords.

In October, Tether introduced an open-source wallet development toolkit.
