Tether’s CEO Unveils Strategy to Outpace AI Competition

To remain relevant amidst the rapid advancement of AI technologies, humans will need to enhance their intellectual capabilities by implanting chips in their brains. This was stated by Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino.

“We are already amazed at what AI can do today — imagine what it will be capable of in five or ten years. And then consider what it could achieve when integrated into a humanoid robot,” he pondered.

Ardoino predicts that mass commercial testing of such solutions will begin soon in various sectors like retail, food service, and transportation.

AI falls short of humans in creativity, but 80% of jobs do not require such qualities. Moreover, the brain is extremely limited in computational power.

“To stay relevant, people need to learn to think and create in more complex ways than today. We need a mathematical coprocessor directly connected to our brain to help us think much faster,” Ardoino asserted.

This does not guarantee that we can develop faster than machines, he acknowledged. In the future, the intelligence gap with machines might be as vast as it is now between us and fish.

“However, with a chip connected to our brain, we could combine the natural creative abilities of the human mind with significant computational power. Such an approach could, for example, allow scientists to develop a deeper and more accurate understanding of the universe, physics, our own bodies, and the environment we live in, all exponentially faster than with existing processes,” Ardoino believes.

The Tether chief emphasized that such potentially invasive technology should be universally accessible. The stablecoin issuer collaborates with universities worldwide for this purpose.

The company has also invested in Blackrock Neurotech — a pioneer in brain-computer interfaces (BCI). Unlike competitors such as Neuralink, which have not moved beyond testing stages, the Salt Lake City biotech firm has had ready products for over a decade. More than 40 patients use its BCI solutions.

“Blackrock’s technology has enabled paralyzed individuals to control robotic limbs, type with their thoughts, operate drones, and even restore communication abilities, proving its real-world application and acceptance,” Ardoino explained.

Tether Data’s division also leads the development of BrainOS. The open-source platform aims to democratize access to advanced tools for enhancing brain function.

In March 2024, Tether announced a strategic expansion into the AI industry. Subsequently, the company announced increased investments in the sector to challenge established players like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google.
