The FBI seized about $1.7 million in cryptocurrencies over three months

The FBI seized cryptocurrency assets worth about $1.7 million from March through May 2023.

In particular, the agency confiscated $147,000 in BTC, $800,000 in ETH, $307,000 in USDT, $469,000 in DAI and $20,000 in Monero. The assets were held at various addresses, including wallets belonging to the Binance exchange.

The largest aggregate amount seized was in the Eastern District of Virginia — more than $1.2 million.

The FBI stressed that the asset seizure resulted from various violations of federal law.

In July, US authorities moved some of the bitcoins seized from the Silk Road darknet marketplace. In a series of transactions, wallets affiliated with the government transferred more than 9,824 BTC (~$300 million at the time of writing).
