The Russian Orthodox Church will not accept Bitcoin donations

The Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) does not plan to create its own digital currency for donations, stated by the head of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk.

He also noted that the ROC does not intend to accept donations in Bitcoin.

As reported, many already collect donations in cryptocurrencies. In 2018 the London Mosque announced the start of fundraising in digital currencies.

Donations are also being attracted in this manner by various organisations. Last year the Human Rights Foundation and the Salvation Army announced they would begin accepting Bitcoin.

In February 2021, a hospital in the United States received $800 000 in Bitcoin.
