Third Moscow investigator arrested in 2718 BTC bribery case

The Moscow Basmanny Court, in absentia, арестовал the former deputy head of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee for the Tverskoy District of the capital, Dmitry Gubin, in a bribery case involving 2718.6 BTC.

He is charged with crimes under Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (receiving a bribe in a particularly large amount) and Part 1 of Article 286 (exceeding official powers).

The former investigator is believed to have fled abroad. He has been placed on an international warrant and will be remanded in custody for two months from the date of extradition.

In September, in the same case, taken into custody Gubin’s subordinate, Kristina Lyakhovenko.

The main figure in the case is the former head of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee for the Tverskoy District, Marat Tambiev, who has been in pre-trial detention since 2022.

According to investigators, the suspects formed a criminal group that periodically took bribes from defendants in various criminal cases.

The largest episode involved a transfer of 2718.6 BTC (~7.3 billion rubles) by members of the Infraud Organization hacker group for not seizing their assets.

In July, the Nikulinsky District Court of Moscow seized from Tambiev 1032.1 BTC for the state. Access codes to two accounts were stored on the suspect’s computer in a folder named \”Pension\”. The remaining assets were allegedly received by Lyakhovenko and Gubin.

According to investigators, aware of 5212.9 BTC on the hackers’ wallets, the suspects prepared inspection protocols for the seized cold wallets, indicating no cryptocurrency in them.

As noted by lawyer Vadim Bagaturia, 654 BTC went missing from the bribery case.

The attorney also pointed to numerous inconsistencies in the handwriting analysis of notes found on Tambiev’s computer.
