Tiger Global moves into crypto trading, reports say

The American investment firm Tiger Global Management has begun actively trading cryptocurrencies. Blockworks reports, citing informed sources.

“Tiger isn’t rushing things, but to be honest, I’m surprised they haven’t done this sooner. They certainly have the connections to dive into this space. It’s simply a matter of attracting the right people for trading,” said one of the publication’s sources.

Tiger Global Management manages assets of about $95 billion. The company actively invests in the blockchain industry. Last year it led a funding round for the smart-contract auditor CertiK and acquired 2.6 million Coinbase shares.

According to sources, Tiger Global Management deals with major cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, and also invests in assets of decentralized protocols, including Filecoin. They noted that the company is examining the prospects of the Web 3.0 sector.

In November 2021, the financial conglomerate Citigroup announced the launch of cryptocurrency-focused division within its Institutional Clients Group.
