TikTok Introduces Tool to Limit AI Content in Feeds

The short video platform TikTok is set to introduce a new feature allowing users to select the amount of AI-generated content in their feeds. The technology for labeling such videos has been enhanced.

This new functionality will be available under the section ‘Settings and Privacy’ —> ‘Content Preferences’ —> ‘Manage Topics’. Here, users can choose the video topics they wish to view.

“Managing topics already allows people to adjust the frequency of content viewing across more than 10 categories, such as ‘Dance’, ‘Sports’, ‘Food and Drinks’,” the company blog states.

This announcement from TikTok comes at a time when other companies like OpenAI and Meta are launching services dedicated to AI-generated content.

In September, the corporation behind Facebook released Vibes, a service for creating and distributing short AI-generated videos.

Simultaneously, the developer of ChatGPT introduced Sora, a media platform for generating and publishing AI videos.

Since the service’s launch, TikTok has been publishing realistic videos created using LLM.

The option to adjust the amount of AI content in feeds will be available in the coming weeks.

New Labeling Technology

TikTok requires users to label realistic AI-generated content. This is done using Content Credentials technology from C2PA, which embeds metadata into the material.

The company noted that such labels might be removed when re-uploading or editing videos on other platforms. Therefore, it plans to integrate “invisible watermarks” to add another layer of protection that is harder to remove.

The new labeling will begin appearing on content created using TikTok tools like AI Editor Pro.

Back in August, a TikTok employee under the pseudonym Kevin stated that artificial intelligence complicates rather than simplifies the work of content moderators.
