Timber supplies, machine-readable powers of attorney, road tolls and other blockchain initiatives

Blockchain technology remains one of the hottest trends among financial, government and commercial organisations worldwide. ForkLog offers an overview of the most interesting recent initiatives.

The Russian Federal Tax Service launches machine-readable powers of attorney on the blockchain

The Russian Federal Tax Service has launched a machine-readable powers of attorney system on the blockchain. This was disclosed by the agency’s head Daniil Yegorov in an interview with RBC.

“If a company or a person issues a power of attorney to represent their interests to another person or another company, then there is no longer a need to carry it around to various banks and agencies,” he explained.

Thanks to the blockchain, the documentation and any changes to it are accessible to all participants in the system.

Spain adopts blockchain to combat fraud in toll payments

Spanish consulting firm Indra implemented blockchain in its Mova Collect system for toll payments.

The initiative aims to bolster cybersecurity and reduce instances of fraud.

Road operators suffer from breaches of payment systems and fake toll notices. Blockchain guarantees the authenticity of such messages and will reduce potential fraud.

Ukraine will track timber shipments via blockchain

Ukraine joined the pilot project of the international Forest Stewardship Council to track timber movement on international markets using blockchain technology.

According to Viktor Smaly, deputy head of the State Agency of Forest Resources for digitalisation, requests to implement the system keep coming from global producers who want to obtain raw materials only from verified sources.

“Timber information, its origin and movement will accumulate in decentralised international databases. Blockchain technology will ensure data integrity and will eliminate the possibility of misuse of data already entered,” the official said.

The first users of the system will be state enterprises under the Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine in Zakarpattia Oblast.

Entered data will help track timber from country of origin to further movements on international markets. Thanks to the system, Ukrainian timber will meet all international requirements for transparency and traceability of raw materials.

Blockchain will enable decentralised verification of pilot licences

SITA, the technology provider for the aviation sector, has implemented blockchain to verify pilot licences by airlines in offline mode. This is reported by Travel Daily News.

The initiative will also speed up the issuance of pilot licences, as registering a digital version will take only a few days, and the paper version several weeks. An added advantage is ease of use.

Blockchain will enhance the privacy of pilots’ personal data and help combat aviation terrorism.

Boeing backs blockchain-based aircraft maintenance project

Boeing has backed the TrustFlight project, which is developing a new digital platform for aircraft maintenance based on blockchain.

The DARS system will guarantee the authenticity of spare parts for repairs and compliance with the stringent requirements of industry regulators. Blockchain will also speed up documentation and enhance data protection.
