Trump Approves Nvidia Chip Sales to China

Nvidia to sell H200 AI chips in China with 25% profit to the US.

Nvidia will be permitted to sell H200 AI chips to “approved clients” in China and other countries, provided that the United States receives 25% of the profits. This was announced by President Donald Trump.

“The policy will create jobs in the US, strengthen American manufacturing, and benefit taxpayers,” he noted.

Trump emphasized the aim to “maintain America’s leadership in artificial intelligence.”

“American Nvidia clients are moving forward with their incredible, high-tech Blackwell chips, and soon Rubin. Neither is part of this deal,” the president stressed.

The Department of Commerce is finalizing the details of the agreement. A similar approach will be applied to AMD, Intel, and other companies.

Chinese President Xi Jinping “responded positively” to the proposal, Trump wrote.

In August, Nvidia and AMD agreed to share 15% of their revenue from chip sales in China with the US government. Around the same time, Chinese authorities warned against the use of the H20 processor, which Nvidia developed specifically for the country.

The H200 is a higher-class semiconductor but is not the top solution from the American chipmaker.

“We welcome President Trump’s decision to allow the American chip industry to compete, supporting high-paying jobs and manufacturing in the country,” a representative from Nvidia commented.

According to him, the sale of the H200 in China “provides a thoughtful balance” that “works great for America.”

At the annual GTC conference, Nvidia announced new processors for creating and running AI models — Blackwell Ultra and Vera Rubin.
