President-elect Donald Trump is contemplating the appointment of an official responsible for artificial intelligence, tasked with coordinating federal policy and the government’s use of the technology, according to Axios, citing sources.
U.S. presidents often appoint so-called ‘czars’ to address high-priority issues such as climate change and border security.
Sources indicate that Elon Musk, head of the DOGE, will not assume the role of ‘AI czar’ but will participate in discussions. Alongside another leader of the new agency, Vivek Ramaswamy, they will assist in selecting a candidate for the position.
Previously, it was revealed that Trump wishes to appoint the first-ever ‘crypto czar’. Axios noted that the digital assets sector might be combined with artificial intelligence under the leadership of a single individual.
The ‘AI czar’ is expected to “focus public and private resources to ensure America remains a leading nation in neural networks.”
The federal government requires artificial intelligence technologies, and the new appointee will collaborate with key officials on this matter. They will also work with DOGE to reduce waste, fraud, and abuse through AI applications.
The idea has been under discussion for several months, as Trump plans structural changes in the White House. Axios emphasized that the ‘czar’ will not need Senate confirmation to assume the role, allowing for a quicker start.
Earlier reports indicated that Trump is considering appointing candidates supportive of digital assets to key government positions.
