Trump Initiates ‘Genesis Mission’ AI Initiative
Trump launches new AI research and development programs.
On November 24, U.S. President Donald Trump issued an order launching new federal research and development programs in artificial intelligence.
The initiative has been grandly named “The Genesis Mission.”
“[The order] will significantly accelerate scientific discoveries, strengthen national security, ensure energy dominance, enhance labor productivity, and greatly increase the return on taxpayers’ investment in research and development,” the document states.
Michael Kratsios, who serves as the President’s Assistant for Science and Technology and Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy, has been appointed to lead the project.
The order also directs Energy Secretary Chris Wright to establish a new “American Science and Security Platform” to centralize the infrastructure necessary to achieve the set goals. It will focus on providing researchers with computational power and datasets for training AI models.
“The initiative will create an integrated artificial intelligence platform aimed at utilizing federal scientific databases […] for training models and creating AI agents to test new hypotheses, automate, and accelerate research processes,” the directive notes.
The release states that “The Genesis Mission” is comparable “in urgency and ambition to the Manhattan Project.”
It plans to delve deeply into areas such as robotics, biotechnology, nuclear fusion, and particle fission.
Within 120 days of signing the order, leaders must provide an implementation plan and a report on the necessary resources. Within 270 days, they are expected to demonstrate the initial functionality of the infrastructure platform.
Earlier in July, Trump signed three documents related to artificial intelligence. They include practices and strategies for creating a more inclusive environment for technology development.
