Trump Team Considers Appointing a ‘Crypto Czar’
Donald Trump and his transition team are contemplating the creation of a dedicated White House position focused on digital assets, according to sources cited by Bloomberg.
U.S. presidents appoint so-called ‘czars’ to address high-priority issues such as climate change and border security.
The initiative is being discussed with industry leaders, though no decision has been made yet.
The appointment would provide the digital asset industry with a specific official to discuss industry priorities and indirectly engage with the head of state.
According to sources, the ‘crypto czar’ is expected to act as a liaison between Congress, the White House, as well as the SEC and the CFTC.
In recent days, Trump has met with Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and former Coinbase CLO and Binance.US head Brian Brooks. The latter is among the potential candidates for the SEC chair position.
Trump is considering appointing candidates supportive of digital assets to key government positions.
He has proposed Elon Musk and former U.S. presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
For the position of U.S. Attorney General, Trump has chosen Matt Gaetz, a proponent of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies who advocates for industry deregulation.
