Two Arrested in Connection with Four Dragons Exchange Hack

On May 8, the Pervomaisky District Court in Bishkek ordered the arrest of two individuals suspected of involvement in the recent hack of the cryptocurrency exchange Four Dragons. Sources close to the detainees’ lawyers informed ForkLog of the development.

According to these sources, one of the suspects is Marat Zaripov, a former employee of the trading platform, who allegedly gained unauthorized access to hot wallets.

Sources also revealed that Zaripov, a Russian citizen, is suspected of large-scale theft committed by an organized group. He faces up to eight years in prison.

The suspects maintained their complete innocence in court. However, according to the lawyers, investigators found compromising data in the Google Translate history, which the suspects forgot to delete.

The administration of Four Dragons is restricted from commenting due to a non-disclosure agreement. However, representatives of the exchange confirmed the arrest of their former employee and shared a teaser of the internal investigation.

The investigation is ongoing.

In late February, unknown individuals hacked the Four Dragons cryptocurrency exchange in Kyrgyzstan, stealing an undisclosed amount of USDT from the platform’s hot wallet during a major transaction.

External experts estimated the damage to range from $841,000 to $100 million. However, a source at the exchange claimed that the maximum damage estimate is exaggerated.

Earlier, ForkLog reported on some details of the investigation into the incident.
