Two Belarusians to stand trial over cryptocurrency transactions worth around $800,000

In Belarus, police identified cases of exchanging funds stolen from citizens into cryptocurrencies. The information was reported by the местном МВД.

According to investigators, over two years a 22-year-old resident of Brest Region and a 37-year-old Minsk man received money onto their bank cards from criminal groups abroad that engaged in vishing and phishing.

In total, the suspects conducted transactions totaling more than 2 million Belarusian rubles (about $800,000), earning commissions from these operations.

Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that entrepreneurial activity involving the turnover of cryptocurrencies in Belarus is allowed only to residents of the Hi-Tech Park.

Administrative protocols have been drawn up against the suspects for illegal entrepreneurial activity, and the materials have been forwarded to the court.

They face a hefty fine and the seizure of the full amount that passed through the crypto wallets, to be paid to the state.

Earlier in July, it was reported that the Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs is preparing amendments to the legislation for ban on cryptocurrency exchanges between individuals due to rising fraud.
