Two More Developers Depart from Ethereum Foundation

Key personnel continue to leave Ethereum Foundation, including Carl Beek and Julian Ma.

The Ethereum Foundation (EF) continues to see the departure of key personnel. On May 18th, researchers Carl Beek and Julian Ma announced their exit from the organization.

Both decisions were voluntary. The developers penned farewell messages on X.

Beek will leave the organization at the end of the month. He has worked at EF for seven years, contributing to the creation of the Ethereum Beacon Chain and improving network throughput and execution.

“The strength of Ethereum lies and will always lie in the people behind it, striving to make it what it is. I am grateful for these years spent among you. What’s next: I’m not sure yet,” he wrote.

Ma spent four years in the organization’s research and product department. He was involved in designing network economics and scaling. The developer co-authored a proposal to enhance privacy FOCIL and led the launch of the fast confirmation mechanism, which accelerates transfers between L1 and L2.

“Why did I leave? For the first three years at EF, I was engaged in market design research. In the last year, I focused on product work and growth. I really enjoy this area and want to move further in this direction,” Ma explained his decision.

The Disintegration of Ethereum Foundation

Beek and Ma’s departures continue a series of resignations at EF. In recent months, several prominent ecosystem members have left the foundation.

In early May, leading developers Barnabé Monnot and Tim Beiko left the Protocol team, while Alex Stokes took a creative break. Temporary managers have been appointed in their places.

In April, team manager Josh Stark announced his departure. In February, Tomasz Stanczak resigned from his position as co-executive director, having served for less than a year. Some specialists have moved to external projects.

Back in March, the Ethereum Foundation team promised to prepare the network for quantum protection by 2029.
