Authorities in Volgograd are investigating a corruption scheme linked to powering a mining farm. The information was reported by the local Investigative Committee.
According to case materials, in December 2020, a 34-year-old entrepreneur offered a bribe to a 30-year-old senior engineer at one of the region’s largest electricity-distribution companies in exchange for underreporting the meter readings.
From January to July 2021, the energy company employee received in total around 200 000 rubles.
The suspects have been detained; one of them is in custody. Investigations into additional episodes related to the illegal supply of electricity to mining farms are ongoing.
Earlier, in February, police detained the owners of the mining farm in a cooperative near Penza. They are suspected of large-scale electricity theft amounting to more than half a million rubles.
